INDIA KASHMIR PROTEST MISSING

Wasim Ahmad (9) and his sister, Bisma (8), (foreground) march ahead as they carry the photograph of their missing father during a demonstration organised by the Association of Parents of Disappeared Persons (APDP) in Srinagar, the summer capital of Indian Kashmir, 9 February 2007. Protests continued for the eleventh day in the strife torn Kashmir after the Indian Army and police launched a probe into the disappearence and killings of civilians by security forces who labeled their victims as Islamic rebels so that they could gain cash rewards or promotions. According to APDP more than 8000 people have gone missing, most of them after their arrest by Indian security forces in the strife torn Kashmir region since a rebellion against Indian rule broke out in 1989.
