INDIA KASHMIR REPUBLIC DAY SECURITY
Indian paramilitary soldiers keep vigil from the upper storey of a damaged building during the Republic Day celebrations in Srinagar, the summer capitalof Indian Kashmir, 26 January 2008. Normal life in disputed Indian Kashmir was paralysed by the strike called by Kashmiri separatists throughout the Valley to bycott the 59th republic day of India. Security checks and patrols have been intensified and many temporary barricades erected in the troubled Kashmir region on Republic Day.
