Altaf Qadri, was born in 1976, in Indian-administered Kashmir. He studied science at Kashmir University and worked as a computer engineer before joining a local newspaper as a staff photographer. In 2003, Altaf joined the European Pressphoto Agency. He provided extensive coverage of the Kashmir conflict until he joined The Associated Press in May 2008 and relocated to the northern Indian city of Amritsar before moving to New Delhi in August 2012. Besides the Kashmir conflict, Altaf has covered historic 2012 elections in Myanmar, chronicled the 2007 Hajj pilgrimage to Mecca in Saudi Arabia, covered war and presidential elections in Afghanistan, covered the fall of Gaddafi and the aftermath of the rebellion in Libya, reported on Nepal's tranistion to democracy, 2008 Mumbai terrorist attack, devastating earthquake in Nepal, covered floods in Thailand, and other numerous stories across India. His works have appeared in almost all the major newspapers and news magazines around the globe.
